Meißen – Cradle of Saxony and “White Gold”

Until the early 16th century the Wettin family resided here, at the top
of the castle hill. After they had chosen Dresden as their new residence,
time stood still in Meißen. Through the narrow, crooked lanes
and backyards, across the historic market square and up the castle hill,
where the Albrechtsburg castle and the Cathedral powerful tower over
the town, we seem to walk through a genuine Medieval town.

But Meißen is the name not only of the town but also of the White Gold:
Meissen porcelain. Even today, every single piece is hand-made, upholding
the fame of the blue swords. In the demonstration workshop
of the manufactory you gain a fascinating insight into the process
of porcelain-making, while the Schauhalle museum provides an overview
of 300 years of porcelain design.

Duration: 5-hour half-day tour to Meißen with walking tour of the
historic town and visit to the porcelain manufactory
