Old Masters Picture Gallery
The most substantial additions were made to the Dresdenart collections in the 18th century under Electors Friedrich
August I (known as Augustus the Strong) and Friedrich August II.
The picture gallery, too, was extended through the
well-organized acquisition of masterpieces, mainly Italian
Renaissance, Flemish and Dutch Baroque pictures, according
to the prevailing fashion. And it is these pictures
on which the worldwide reputation of the collection rests,
e.g. Raphael, Titian, Giorgione, Veronese, Rubens, Rembrandt.
They form the central focus of my guided tour.
